Two men were reportedly seen attacking another man with a knife and a meat cleaver along Woolwich in London on Wednesday. Some eyewitnesses reported it as a beheading with what looked like a machete.
The man attacked was reported dead at the scene while the two attackers were shot by the Metropolitan police. The victim was believed to be a soldier who was returning to his barracks.
Reports say the two men who were shot were brought to the hospital; one of them is serious condition.
Eyewitnesses told the news, “These two guys were crazed. They were just animals. They dragged him from the pavement and dumped his body in the middle of the road and left his body there.”
One added that they had no intention of running off and were more worried about having their photo taken.
British Prime Minister David Cameron described the incident as “truly shocking”.
The incident was close to the barracks which housed the King’s Troop and Royal Horse Artillery. It also held the shooting events in last year’s London Summer Olympics.
